Audiofile Review: Suddenly Mrs Darcy by Jenetta James
Narrator Lillian Rachel does an excellent job bringing to life this twist on Jane Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. In this offering, strong-willed and independent Elizabeth Bennet is forced to wed handsome and stoic Fitzwilliam Darcy when Mrs. Bennet claims Darcy has compromised Elizabeth. Can two near-strangers find love after such difficult beginnings? Rachel captures each character with a distinct voice and British accent, making each easily recognizable. Her timbre, and acting abilities remain front and center. There are enough twists and turns to make this story fresh and new and enough of the original to ensure that it's still familiar and comfortable. This is a lovely listen, beautifully narrated and well acted. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2021] Digital Download • Quills & Quartos Publishing • 2020 DD ISBN $19.95 |
Audiofile Review: Felicity Carrol and the Murderous Menace by Patricia Marcantonio
British-born narrator Lillian Rachel deftly moves between the posh accent of London's Detective Felicity Carrol and the accents of the American Old West in this new audiobook inspired by one of the most infamous unsolved crimes of all time. When Detective Carrol's good friend becomes ill after dedicating his life to finding Jack the Ripper, Felicity follows the trail to Montana to track down the friend's most devastating and promising lead. Amid the constant action, Rachel brings each quip, and each twist and turn, to life. V.B. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2020] |
